The researchers discovered that bacteria used in the fermentation of Swiss Emmental cheese reduce inflammation and strengthen the immune system.

These bacteria have been found in other dairy products, such as milk, which can delay the appearance of signs of aging as well, according to researchers at the University of Korea in Seoul.

The study, which was published in the journal Scientific Reports, was initially conducted on worms, but the authors say, "The mechanisms identified in the study may apply to other species, including humans."
An important question was asked: Why are there holes in Swiss cheese? To answer this question, the researchers said, the bacteria used to ferment Swiss cheese give a distinct taste and the formation of holes (known as eyes).

The bacteria use lactic acid to release carbon dioxide bubbles, which gradually cause holes to form, as their size can be controlled by changing the ocean's temperature.
